Play your way through the ancient world!

The stories we tell take many shapes. They drive our memory and shape our understanding. This is the truth behind not only a situated, contextual history but also modern gaming. That’s right — Call of Duty actively engages with combat history just as Percy Jackson does with mythology. From Herodotus to Handsome Jack, through visuals, sound design, and narrative, we share games and history through stories.

History is remembered as a series of stories shaped by those who tell them and those who listen. Games are no different — how players react to worlds (real, animated, or imagined) will always be shaped by their stories. By playing with and through history, we can unlock new stories of old histories; and change the game entirely.

Join us at Hitpoints & History 2025 to explore aspects of “storytelling” in games and the ancient world, whether it’s modern stories of ancient cultures or how stories have been encoded in millennia past.

What is Archaeogaming?

Archaeogaming, short for video game archeology, explores the past through digital and non-digital gaming and also explores a game as a historical artifact itself.

Presented by The Ozymandias Project and Digital Hammurabi

The Ozymandias Project and Digital Hammurabi have joined together to create Hitpoints & History, an interactive, virtual archaeogaming conference connecting academics, professionals, and gamers - regardless of character level! We explore the open world of archaeogaming through livestreams, workshops, and collaborative gaming events. Hitpoints & History is an ambitious quest to broaden the field and make some friends along the way.
